Private lessons in Classical Ballet Technique - French style

with Pierre Vilanoba

Pierre’s early training began at the Lille Conservatory in France, before entering the school of the Paris Opera Ballet. His teaching style is that of the French School, and he emphasizes a properly aligned, structurally sound foundation built with breath, ease, and the joy of dancing. Mr. Gilbert Mayer, Premier danseur and Honorary Professor of l'Ecole de Danse et du Ballet de l'Opéra national de Paris, remains one of Pierre’s most influential teachers from his formative years.

During his 15 years at the Paris Opera, Pierre completed his dance and academic education, then joined the company, rising to the rank of Sujet. Desiring a broader life experience, Pierre left for the US and joined San Francisco Ballet, where he spent 15 seasons as a principal dancer before retiring from the stage.

Pierre is currently a faculty member of Marin Dance Theatre, and offers private instruction, in the San Francisco Bay Area, many Sundays throughout the year. Students age 10 or older, who are expected to have completed a minimum of 2 years of serious ballet training, will be considered for lessons, based on space available. Pierre’s students come from throughout the Bay area and beyond, and his schedule fills quickly.

We do maintain a waiting list when the schedule is full.
